Incompetence Around Every Corner

Published by Kelly at 9:24 pm under personal, rantings, social Edit This

It’s amazing to me how incompetent people can be in the workplace and get away with it.

Especially if they are in customer service or service of any kind.

I have tire issues.  Always have had tire issues.  Every car I have ever driven, whether used or brand spankin’ new.

My current car was purchased new.  Since day 1, I have had tires issues.  Nothing major really, just slow leaks.  Really slow at first.

As of the last year or so, the leaking is much worse.  I had two tires resealed.  The others managed to hold up with just Fix a Flat.

But the last two weeks, one tire has been losing about 10 lbs of pressure a week.  So, today I took it in to Just Tires to have it resealed.

They called and said it can’t be fixed because there is a bubble in the tire and cut inside the tire.  They wanted 180 for the tire including installing it.  144 for the tire itself.

This seemed high to me, so I said let me wait and check with my step-dad when he gets home to see what he thinks.

They warned that I should not drive on it much, definitely not at all on the expressway.  They said with it being on the front wheel, it is exceedingly dangerous because there is no control over the steering if it blows out.

Nice, great.

While I wait for them to get my car down and bring it around, I look over the counter and jot down the tire size they have written on the work order.

They give me a receipt (no charge) and I leave.  I get home and decide to do some research on tire prices.  I look at the receipt they gave me and they have my car wrong.

They have it as a 2002 GT, when it’s a 2001 SE.  Completely different tire size.  Therefore, completely different tire price.

$50 or more difference depending on the tire grade.

If I had said yes, they would have put the wrong size tire on my car and I would have had to pay a hell of a lot more than I needed to.

My feeling is this.  If you work on cars for a living, you should be able to determine what type of car it is.  Especially when it clearly says SE ON THE CAR!  And if you cannot make that out, then you should not be working in this field.
