Taming My Mane

Published by Kelly at 4:50 pm under personal Edit This

I mentioned in Sun & A Haircut , that I like my hair short because when it is long, it has a mind of its own.

The problem that has plagued my hair the last two years, regardless of the overall length, is my bangs.

I started wearing bangs a couple of years ago.  I like my bangs, except for one little problem.

They split.

No matter how I do it, they end up spitting down the middle.

I can get them to stay put for a while, but before long, even if I have my hair done professionally, this is what happens.

Any ideas on how to train them?  I don’t know what to do to get them to behave.  I have tried torture, pleading, enticing, teasing, begging; you name it.  I have not tried a time out, though I doubt if that would work.

Any suggestions?

The Hawg, thanks! On a normal day, I don’t mind so much, but when I go to “fancy” events, I prefer it to stay where I put it. It’s very annoying….

Ooh, I hate when that happens. It’s because I was so annoyed by the splitting that I gave up on bangs. My hair insists on parting in the middle always (even when I meticulously style it in a side part!)

Do you blow dry and/or flatiron them? One way I know that might help is when blow drying, you take a huge section of hair (from your hairline to the crown) and blow dry it forward. Same thing goes for flat ironing.

Venus, I do blow dry them most of the time. There is a small window of time in the process that they do what I want without needing to try. The rest of the time I blow them dry, but not much seems to keep them from splitting throughout the day…I may have to try the tip though. Thanks!

Haha, I love how you say “There is a small window of time in the process that they do what I want” :)

    It is so true, Venus.

Try rolling all of the bangs at once, if possible. When I had the problem it was generally because I tried to do half at a time with the blow dryer and round brush.

Of course, you could always do like the old timers like me or even my mother used to have to. Pin them together, spray stiff and pray for sunshine.

kdlovett, I usually do them all together and they are ok for the first hour or so and then they decide they don’t like each other anymore and part….I need to train them somehow…have peace talks or something….
