Not The Best Birthday In History

Published by Kelly at 4:59 pm under personal Edit This

Thank you all so much for the wonderful Birthday wishes!

As you know, yesterday was my birthday.

I woke up with plans for the day including breakfast with my mom and then out to dinner that night.

Shortly before going to breakfast, I pulled something.

History: about 5 years ago, I pulled something in my shoulder that caused immense pain and left me immobile from the chest up.  I could turn at the waist, but any other movement at all was not possible without so much pain that I would get faint.

I get a recurrence of this yearly.  Sometimes a few times and it lasts at least a week.

I was thinking that I was going to have one calendar year without it because I have been just fine and the last time this happened was July 2007.  Yesterday, of all days, I woke with a pea-sized bit of pain in my shoulder blade.

I showered and got ready to go to breakfast.  I bent down to get something, a bit too quickly I guess, and the pea-sized pain exploded into softball-sized pain.

I took one of my grandma’s vicadin (I know you are not supposed to do that, but she has the same prescription I had when I was prescribed them for something before and nothing else helps as much) and felt some better.  I still had discomfort, but I was able to function better.

I took another one, with my mother’s prodding, around 4 last night.  Not thinking, I took it on an empty stomach.  By 5, I was very nauseous and had zero desire to go out to eat.  So, we ordered in.

I am still in a lot of pain and most likely will be for a week, being that is how it has happened in the past.  I can move, but I can’t turn certain ways or bend to far.  Strain of any kind takes my breath away.

It was not the worst it could have been, but yesterday will not put this birthday in the record books as one of the best either.

Tonight I am going to dinner with a friend.  Let’s hope the pain is tolerable.  Though a margarita might help matters.

I am sorry to hear about your pain, I can only hope it gets better. And I came here to congratulate you for a job well done at Today (which I know you deserve so well, you’ve been helpful to me in the forum for tips to increase traffic and such), and I am greeted with your health conditions. Hope you feel better.

I’m so sorry - pain like that is just miserable and on your birthday, no less. I hope you get it taken care of right away and you feel much better very, very soon.

thanks guys! I had a margarita with dinner and it has helped some. It’s still there, but it helped relax my muscles. I may have to have another tomorrow when my my sister’s family comes to celebrate….
