Shopaholic Let Down

I am very disturbed.

I just saw a commercial for Confessions of a Shopaholic, a film based on the series by Sophie Kinsella.

I adore these books.  I have read them all and look forward to any new adventures the author might have brewing.  I was intrigued by the idea of a movie being made.

Now, I am disappointed and have no intention of seeing this film.

Not only does the main character have red hair in the movie and dark hair in the book, she hates a redhead in the book!  Beyond that, um, the book is set in ENGLAND, British accent and lingo to boot.  The film is set in NY with American accents.

I don’t even want to know what other changes they have made.

I hate, hate, hate when books are destroyed in adaptation from book to film.  If you are going to do it, do it right.  Damn it.

I like Joan Cuzack, but having a Chicagoan play a New York mom in a role that is meant for an English country mom just adds to the disappointment.

I hate that. If they are going to change everything about the ‘brnad’, why use it?

Unfortunately,Hollywood producers seem to think that we just won’t “get it” unless it, (book or film adaption) is completely Americanised.Which is a pretty arrogant presumption,as I don’t think the audince is that dumb, nor xenophobic.

I feel your frustration, Kelly. It is really disturbing to see our well loved book has been arranged differently in film.

I actually haven’t read the books but now I am curious. With so many English actresses one would think they could have done some better casting. Anywhoo save your money and buy the Sex in the City DVD that is coming out today or tomorrow. I have crossed 3 timezones and four countries in less than a week.
